What We Do
The Possible Worlds educational game series were created in collaboration with the Education Development Center, Center for Children & Technology. The goal of the project was to create 4 game modules that teach 7th graders about abstract scientific concepts that are often misunderstood with gameplay metaphors. They were used as part of a curriculum including handouts and other exercises for the a science teacher and tested at a classroom in Brookyn, NY. The 4 modules covered concepts including energy transfer, photosynthesis, dominant and recessive traits, and electricity. Each game was set in a fanciful rich worlds designed to integrate the educational concepts directly into the gameplay activity. Over the course of the project we started with paper prototypes for the designs, moved to Nintendo DS, Flash, iPads and finally the web. An efficacy study found that these modules were as effective as traditional book based science curriculum.
